These days my lovely wife Jen and I are reading “Eat to Live,” by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. It’s a refreshing guide to eating the right stuff. For the past year, my choice of food has been haphazard. As a new vegan, I didn’t know what to eat and there is so much choice! Now I feel like I’m on the right track.
In the book, Dr. Fuhrman advocates eating the most nutritious foods that have the least calories. He scores greens like collard greens, kale and spinach toward the top. He explains that empty calories like oils — even olive oil — are not doing your body any favors.
Dr. Fuhrman also says the best foods to eat are easy to remember. He calls them G-BOMBS (Greens, beans, onions, mushrooms, berries and seeds). Read more here, courtesy Dr. Oz.
As we are trying out some of his recipe suggestions we found that these foods are filling, delicious and low in calories.
Honestly, for more than nine months I’ve been at a weight plateau. I haven’t been able to go much below 225 pounds. But, in the past week, my weight in the morning has been 220 pounds twice and it was 219 pounds this morning! The book claims to be able to help you lose 20 pounds or more in six weeks. Stay tuned!
Here’s a video I found of Dr. Fuhrman telling it like it is:
