Today is the day I met my weight goal! When I went vegan, it was for ethical reasons. I don’t think it’s right that we slaughter innocent animals for food when there are viable alternatives that are better for humans! But soon after changing my lifestyle — 14 months ago — I began to learn about the health benefits from a plant-based diet. I started to lose weight. I began to feel more energy. My mood was improved. I thought I had found the hidden secret to happiness!
From my all-time high weight of 254 pounds, I started sliding down to skinny. After six months, I hit a plateau of 225 pounds. Until about six weeks ago, I was stuck there. My goal of being 205 pounds seemed unattainable. But then I discovered the book, “Eat to Live,” by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. I followed his plan:
- No more oils
- Very little salt or sugar
- A large salad every day
- Generous daily servings of Greens, Beans, Onions, Mushrooms, Berries and Seeds (G-BOMBS)
So now it’s time to set a new goal. My lovely wife Jen thinks I should aim for 199 pounds. I think I can do it. All I need to do is stick with the plan. I feel like my stomach has shrunk or something. I just can’t eat as much as I used to. I get fuller faster and find that the snacks I bring to work to get me through the day are left uneaten! I’m also exercising more these days. Consider the Nutritarian lifestyle. It’s no gimmick. It’s a new way of eating whole foods, natural and fresh!
